Pioneer DVR-810H DVD Recorder/Player: Do Not Even Think of Purchasing Unless....

byhwz1 Feb 1, 2004

Pros Easy to use, combine Tivo and DVD, no fees, good picture and sound
Cons Cannot remove commercials, expensive
Recommended it? Yes

We have seen a lot of things combined in the past few years. Cell phones and cameras, for instance. Or PDA's and cell phones. Cameras and video recorders. It is a wonder that it took so long for a company to capitalize on the combination of a DVD player/recorder and a Tivo- like machine.

Pioneer DVR-810H DVD Recorder / Player with TiVo - If you can live with limitations

bydkozin Jul 15, 2004
34 Helpfuls 35 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Picture quality in Fine and SP modes, DVD playback quality, TiVo convenience
Cons No DVD+RW, DVD+R or DVD-RAM recording, no editing, no FireWire, price

byskaizun Dec 9, 2010
8 Helpfuls 9 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros VHS-DVD dubbing and vice-versa; QAM tuner; fairly easy record programming.
Cons Hard to setup; remote difficult to use; won't display other DVR-recorded DVD menu.
Recommended it? Yes

In compliance with Federal digital standards/requirements, my cable company recently converted to a system that requires its customers to rent a cable box to receive its signal, unless the customers have a QAM-based tuner in the TV and audio/video equipment.

The new, required, cable box... Read full review »

Pros Worked well for three months
Cons Stopped working after three months
Recommended it? No

I bought the Toshiba DVR670 from Costco to transfer some of my old VCR tapes to DVDs,  It worked fine for a few months - pretty good picture, easy to set up and use.  After about three months, it simply stopped working - it wouldn't even turn on.  Costco gave me a full refund, but my...
