Pioneer DVR-810H DVD Recorder/Player: Do Not Even Think of Purchasing Unless....

byhwz1 Feb 1, 2004
72 Helpfuls 73 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Easy to use, combine Tivo and DVD, no fees, good picture and sound
Cons Cannot remove commercials, expensive
Recommended it? Yes

We have seen a lot of things combined in the past few years. Cell phones and cameras, for instance. Or PDA's and cell phones. Cameras and video recorders. It is a wonder that it took so long for a company to capitalize on the combination of a DVD player/recorder and a Tivo- like machine.

Pioneer DVR-810H DVD Recorder / Player with TiVo - If you can live with limitations

bydkozin Jul 15, 2004
34 Helpfuls 35 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Picture quality in Fine and SP modes, DVD playback quality, TiVo convenience
Cons No DVD+RW, DVD+R or DVD-RAM recording, no editing, no FireWire, price
Recommended it? Yes

I have to immediately note that the Pioneer DVR-810H will not let you record your camcorder footage directly to DVD and it will not let you record from other sources directly to DVD either. What you can do, however, is record from the hard drive, which can store programs (off the air or from other... Read full review »

GoVideo R6530 - Would be an OK unit - if it worked.

bygtff Jan 12, 2004
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Price, good feature set, jpeg-capable, tech support readily available
Cons small remote with too-small buttons, tacky design, unreliable burning
Recommended it? No

I just sent back my second GoVideo R6530. Consistant problems of unpredictable frequent repeated skipping, sometimes several chapters at a time. First one did it on two different brands of DVD+RW blanks, including the one that came with the unit. Thought it was just a dud unit and sent it back to... Read full review »

Don't "Go" There

byaeros24 Dec 15, 2003
6 Helpfuls 7 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Price, stylish case, DVD+RW discs don't need finalizing to be compatible with most...
Cons Missing features, quirky user interface.
Recommended it? No

I bought the Go Video/Sonic Blue R6530 DVD recorder as a replacement for my VCR. I wanted a unit that records on DVD+RW discs because I'd read that you can play DVD+RWs in most DVD players without formatting or finalizing, both time-consuming processes. That makes the reusable DVD+RW discs just as... Read full review »
