Fast, Stable, a little loud.
I acquired a used WD400BB from a friend. I hooked it up through an external USB-to-ATA interface. ext2fs long format with pattern testing as well as NTFS long format both worked without a single error.

The Western Digital WD400BB is a legacy hard drive from the WD Caviar internal hard drive series. This Western Digital hard drive has a 40GB capacity and uses EIDE for interfacing with the computer. The 3.5 form factor lets this Western Digital legacy hard drive occupy older as well as new chassis models. An actuator latch and dedicated landing site on the Western Digital WD400BB improves the life of the drive. This Western Digital legacy hard drive features embedded Data Lifeguard Tools software which provides shock protection, error detection and repair and manages installations and diagnostics. This Western Digital hard drive has a spindle speed of 7200 rpm and 2MB buffer for improved access speeds.
