OK, so I admit it. I get lost getting out of my garage!

byDennisM Oct 9, 2004

Pros No real set up required, easy to use, good voice quality, nice 3D display!
Cons Screen difficult to see in direct sunlight. Route picked is sometimes long way around!
Recommended it? Yes

Well that's what my wife always says about my ability to follow directions, driving someplace new! Actually, I hate reading maps and could never figure out the correct route from any map!

I really believe the GPS receiver was made just for me. GPS, or Global Positioning System, is a... Read full review »

Great Hardware Marred by Poor Map Routing

bytdi1 Aug 12, 2004

Pros fast, accurate satellite lock, quick map redraws, great sound, touchscreen
Cons price, durability(?), reflective screen, UNACCEPTABLE MAP ACCURACY
Recommended it? No

(updated 9/10/2004)
Update comments:
I have now used the TomTom GO for a full month for extensive navigation around Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Unfortunately, I have to downgrade my recommendation because of unacceptable map routing.

I have used the Delorme Street Atlas... Read full review »

Great software makes this GPS great

byhbj200 Feb 2, 2005

Pros Very nice software, portable, voice directions
Cons Expensive, GPS slow at times
Recommended it? Yes

While most GPS devices have the same underpinning hardware technology, whether a GPS navigation system works or not really depends on the navigation software -- and Tomtom's GO in-car system is perhaps the best because its software is accurate, easy to use, and full of features.

TomTom Steers Me Wrong!

bybodacious222 Jun 13, 2005
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great user interface, graphics, speech, battery life and portability
Cons Awful map and POI database has lead me astray on every long-distance trip
Recommended it? No

I purchased a TomTom navigator system six months ago based on good experiences with renting cars with Magellan's Neverlost. The Magellan unit was very expensive and I found the TomTom had a superior user interface, was portable and less costly. So I purchased the TomTom Go Plus.

I can't... Read full review »

Excellent interface, mediocre performace, buy the TomTom Go 300 instead and save

bycwashizawa Mar 6, 2006

Pros Quick start-up (10-15 seconds), excellent user interface, audio, and predictive text,...
Cons Maps are a bit outdated, no WAAS, ASN is virtually useless.
Recommended it? Yes

After weeks of research, reading reviews, and comparison shopping between the Lowrance IWay 500c, the Garmin StreetPilot 2270, and the Tomtom go 700, I finally decided to plunk down $800 for the Tomtom Go 700. Following a week of use including a roundtrip from Sacramento to LA, here are some of my... Read full review »

Appalling Map Accuracy

byjailtee Mar 5, 2007

Pros Well designed hardware with good battery life.
Cons Badly let down by inaccurate mapping which results in a virtually unuseable product. NOT...
Recommended it? No

Spent a fair sum of the last map upgrade and was very disappointed.

The detail accuracy of the UK map (in my local area at least) is awful. (e.g. M4 junction 13 bears no relation to reality; Newbury centre is placed some 8-10 miles out of town! & Winchester town routes seem to delight in... Read full review »

Just GO right out of the box!

byNightShift8 Jun 19, 2005
4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Simple interface, easy to use, includes all maps, built-in clear speaker, no real setup
Cons Brighter screen/sun shield, screen is a bit on the small side
Recommended it? Yes

I bought the TomTom 300 GPS unit to replace my older garmin palm/gps since it was giving me problems, was unreliable, and I didn't use palm OS part of it.

It was time for a more simplified solution and the TomTom line looked promising and it appears to be holding true. Right out of the... Read full review »

Great Marketing poor performance

bygiantshopper Jul 10, 2006

Pros Small, Affordable, popular!
Cons performance and menu is simple yet basic.
Recommended it? Yes

This very tiny yet dependable GPS unit has received rants and raves from the media since it was first released. Yet, in my opinion it is highly overrated and performance is nothing more than mediocre. Read full review »

Nice application, horrible maps ruin this product

byt-bryd May 16, 2005
2 Helpfuls 3 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Nice size, good application
Cons The maps (from TeleAtlas) are wrong or not there at all
Recommended it? No

I have used TomTom products before and always liked the interface and application but always had problems with the maps. When I saw the "Go" come out, I was hoping that they had switched to NAVTEQ data, but apparently not.

The maps (supplied by TeleAtlas) are very wrong in both major... Read full review »

Good standalone unit, but not perfect

bygrey_newt Oct 15, 2004
2 Helpfuls 3 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Cheap, idiot-proof navigation, good maps, nice extras
Cons Poor screen in sunlight, inflexible mapping displays
Recommended it? Yes

For the price, it's a lot cheaper and more flexible than in-car systems. I have used Garmin and Navman units and whilst this unit is good, it could be better. Main gripes..
1. The screen is tough to see in bright sunlight
2. The map zoom cannot be fixed - sometimes I want to see more map... Read full review »
